Michelle O’Connor is Of Counsel with Nimbus Legal on a part time basis, providing legal services and advice to small businesses.
My first career was as a securities and corporate attorney with Fennemore Craig and then with O’Connor Cavanagh, where I was part of a team representing issuers of common stock, collateralized debt obligations, REITs, private placements and municipal bonds in connection with securities offerings. I also was primarily responsible for the corporate governance and 1934 Act filings for many of those clients.
My life changed course and my second career began when my first son was born profoundly deaf. In order to better teach him to talk, I co-founded Desert Voices Oral Learning Center, a school for deaf children, where among other things, I wrote several successful grant applications, drafted the school brochure, talked with school districts to encourage them to refer appropriate children to us, and served as an officer and director of the school for the next six years. Desert Voices is still operating in Arizona and has taught over 300 deaf children to talk since its foundation, sending them into mainstream public and private school classrooms. During that time, I was also licensed as an Arizona real estate agent and was involved in numerous community projects, including developing and managing all the financial aspects of a large annual fundraising project for Maggie’s Place (a shelter for pregnant mothers) for over ten years, forming a nonprofit company to provide gently used sports equipment and uniforms to young athletes in Phoenix, and volunteering in the “in house” pharmacy at the Neighborhood Christian Clinic in south Phoenix.
Recently, my career changed again when I formed a solo practice law firm to provide general corporate legal services and advice to small businesses, with particular emphasis on SaaS subscriptions master service agreements, corporate governance and customer and vendor contracts.
I attended law school at The George Washington University Law School in Washington D.C., graduating with high honors and serving on the editorial board of The George Washington University Law Review. I went to undergrad at Houghton College, a small college in upstate New York. After finishing law school, I moved to Phoenix to enjoy the beautiful weather for a while, expecting to return back East in a few years, but I never left! I love hiking and running with my Golden Retriever Charlie and am learning to play golf. I especially enjoy traveling with my family or just getting away to the beach to relax.
